Carlos Alcaraz (+150)

The young Spaniard surprised the tennis world a few years ago with his meteoric rise, but now, at the ripe old age of 21, tennis watchers all over the world recognize Carlos Alcaraz as the favorite for virtually every tournament he enters.

Alcaraz has won the US Open already, back in 2022. He currently ranks as the number three player in the ATP and boasts a 38-7 match record in 2024. He has also won three singles titles this year, including Wimbledon and the French Open.

All this gives Alcaraz the decided edge in US Open odds, currently at +150.

Some recent question marks might push fans away from the odds-on favorite, however.

Gael Monfils, 37, defeated Alcaraz at the Cincinnati tune-up event before the US Open. The Spanish star also suffered a mental blow from his loss to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Olympics earlier in August, expressing disappointment at letting his country down.

Are these caution signs for the young superstar heading into the US Open? Or extra motivation?

Jannik Sinner (+200)

Ahead of Alcaraz in the ATP rankings, current world #1 Jannik Sinner is a scorching 42-4 in his men’s singles tennis matches as he enters the US Open.

This includes four titles this year already, including the 2024 Australian Open back in January. Sinner’s best showing at the US Open came in 2022, when he reached the quarterfinals at the age of 21. His showing in Grand Slam events overall is lukewarm though, and it seems oddsmakers aren’t convinced that he has shown that big-match resolve just yet.

Sinner has cooled off a little lately too, which may be another reason why his US Open odds are behind Alcaraz’s even though the Italian has a higher overall ATP ranking.

Sinner won three of his four titles this year before the end of March, and he consistently reaches at least the quarterfinals in every tournament he enters. He has achieved this in every tournament he’s played in 2024.
With Alcaraz possibly a bit shaky at the moment, and Novak Djokovic fourteen years his senior, is this the year that Sinner is a US Open winner?

Novak Djokovic (+200)

As the reigning US Open men’s tennis champion, Novak Djokovic can still, at the age of 37,  get things done on the court. His most recent battle at the Paris Olympics, winning a grueling gold medal match against Carlos Alcaraz, served notice to the tennis world that the 25-time Grand Slam winner still has plenty of power and court savvy.

Djokovic has a 29-7 singles record so far this season, with his lone title coming just a few weeks ago at the Paris Olympics. Djokovic, visibly moved after the grinding match went to a tiebreaker in both sets against Alcaraz, could carry this momentum onto the courts at this year’s US Open, where he has raised the trophy four times in his career.

On the other hand, Djokovic turned pro in 2023, the same year that Alcaraz was born and Sinner was two years old. At some point, age has to catch up to the Joker. Is this the year? His US Open odds indicate that he may have a few more shots up his sleeve.

Aryna Sabalenka (+300)

Aryna Sabalenka reached the women’s finals at last year’s US Open, and she’s won two other Grand Slam events in the past two years.

Although she’s ranked #3 in the WTA, Sabalenka currently holds the best US Open odds (along with Iga Swiatek) in the lead-up to the start of the tournament. She’s 34-11 this year so far. Her only rough patch occurred earlier this year when she failed to reach the quarters in three straight matches, which coincided with an off-court event that very likely threw off her focus.

Her swagger is back now, however – in her last seven straight tournaments, she’s reached at least the quarterfinals. Sabalenka knows how to handle center court at Grand Slam events too, so she could be tough to beat.

Iga Swiatek (+300)

Speaking of players who could beat Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek tops the list.

The current world #1 on the women’s tour, Swiatek faced the Belarusian in the finals in consecutive tournaments in April and May of this year, winning both matches. (Sabalenka did just beat Swiatek in the Cincinnati Open earlier this month, however).

Swiatek is a torrid 47-5 in her singles matches so far this year, including 5 titles and over $6,000,000 in earnings already.

What made oddsmakers place Swiatek’s US Open odds even with Sabalenka even though the Polish star ranks two spots better in the WTA rankings?

It could be Swiatek’s up-and-down performance in Grand Slam events this year. She won the French Open, but she lost in the third round at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Coco Gauff (+850)

If you’re looking for an advantage when it comes to this year’s women’s tennis US Open odds, last year’s champion Coco Gauff might be your player.

Gauff has the game and the experience to step up under the bright lights of NYC. The crowd will be behind her too, as America’s top-seeded women’s player. She’s currently #2 on the WTA tour, with a 36-12 record so far in 2024.

Her recent results have made her a bit of a long shot in the oddsmakers’ eyes, with four straight tournaments in which she hasn’t made it past the 4th round. But at +850, there’s a bigger payoff for choosing Gauff.
