I would defy even the most part-time, fair weather soccer fan to not become engrossed and addicted the run-in games which come thick and fast with twists and turns at every heart-in-the-mouth moment. This past weekend the run-in dished up a record-breaking day (Sunday) of three fixtures totalling 21 goals between them! Six teams were desperately fighting to remain part of the holy grail, the English Premier League, for another season. At the top of the table Manchester City maintained their healthy lead over second place Arsenal, both teams are now guaranteed to finish in the top two however there is still time for Arsenal to turn their fortunes around. With the home straight in view, Manchester City are on 82 points from 34 games, Arsenal are sitting on 81 points from 35 games. While Manchester City have the obvious advantage of a precious game in-hand, the fixture list has handed Arsenal a hint of hope in their pursuit of the title.

The Race To The Title

Saturday May 14 Manchester City face Everton at Goodison Park who are currently 17th in the league. Arsenal face Brighton at the Emirates Stadium who are currently 7th place. Saturday May 20 Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest who are clinging on to their Premier League position with dear life. Forest were part of the weekend’s 21 goal frenzy after a 4-3 win against, almost as good as relegated, Southampton FC. Sunday May 21 Manchester City will play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It is no secret this season has been one of the worst in recent history for Chelsea, with the revolving door of new managers they currently sit in 11th position. Wednesday May 24 Manchester City travel south to 6th place Brighton & Hove Albion. Whatever happens from this point, it has been an incredible season for Brighton who continue their push for that precious European soccer spot for next season. Can they be the ones who surprise City with a shock result? Sunday May 28th Arsenal’s final game of the 2022/23 soccer season is at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Most soccer fans would expect Arsenal to easily take the vital three points from 13th positioned Wolves. As for Manchester City, their final Premier League game takes them London bound to face Brentford who are currently in 9th position, again most fans would predict the frightening in form City to walk away with a comfortable win. When the final whistle is blown and the curtain falls on this seasons Premier League who will be parading the greatest domestic soccer trophy in the world around their stadium in front of their adoring fans? Manchester City or Arsenal?
