Saudi Arabia is set to host yet another huge boxing event on Saturday June 1st with a mouth-watering bumper fight card. It’s the first-of-a-kind format that is set to draw in millions of boxing fans around the world.
This really is something special, two of boxing’s biggest promoters, Frank Warren (Queensberry) and Eddie Hearn (Matchroom) have each selected five fighters to represent them in a head-to-head tournament which will determine who has the better field of fighters.

British boxing bragging rights are up for grabs in the 5v5 boxing showdown taking place this weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event will be taking place at the same venue which hosted the historic Tyson Fury v Oleksander Usyk fight only two weeks ago.
Frank Warren’s Team Queensberry:
- • Zhilei Zhang, heavyweight
- • Daniel Dubois, heavyweight
- • Nick Ball, featherweight
- • Hamzah Sheeraz, middleweight
- • Willy Hutchinson, light heavyweight
Although you could not get the two British promoters in a room with one another a few years ago, the two men have come together to produce the unprecedented tournament.
Eddie Hearn’s Team Matchroom:
- • Deontay Wilder, heavyweight
- • Filip Hrgovic, heavyweight
- • Raymond Ford, featherweight
- • Austin Williams, middleweight
- • Craig Richards, light heavyweight
Hearn and Warren have made no secret of their bitter rivalry with the pair famously blaming each other in public media spats for the reason Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have never been able to put pen to paper and put on the fight the fans have been demanding for years.
Heavyweight Action
For heavyweight junkies, Deontay Wilder vs Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois will be the can’t-miss collisions.
You are in for a treat. Matchroom pulled off a huge shock by securing the services of Deontay Wilder for this event, the former long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion putting aside his long-standing animosity with both Hearn and Matchroom to captain the team against Queensbury.
Both Wilder and Zhang enter the main event off a loss to Joseph Parker, this is a meeting of two of the most fearsome punchers in the sport but also two men who can fall into long spells of inactivity and passivity. Some fans believe this bout could be a snoozefest but I could not disagree more.
Daniel Dubois v Filip Hrgovic is another fascinating heavy-weight clash. Dubois has improved and grown as a boxer since switching trainers however most fans feel he will not have enough in the tank to overcome the mighty Croation, Hrgovic.
Every one of the bouts is tantalizing however, my personal favourite on the card is Sheeraz v Williams. Sheeraz (19-0, 15 KOs) is Queensberry’s Team captain and one of the UK’s brightest talents.
“Punch him in the face really hard,” said Sheeraz when asked how he makes Ammo Williams regret taking the fight with him. “Just doing that. Beating him to the punch, beating him mentally, and beating him physically. I already beat him mentally and spiritually before the fight anyway.”
Oh, and keep an eye out for Nick Ball. For the out-and-out purist, those who like their contests to be high on both quality and energy, the battle that sees Nick Ball challenge newly crowned WBA featherweight kingpin Raymond Ford might just be the most enticing of the lot.
