Champions league

European dominance, that’s what the Champions League is all about. There are 55 domestic soccer leagues across Europe, with the “Big Five” considered the most competitive: the Premier League in the United Kingdom, La Liga in Spain, the Bundesliga in Germany, Serie A in Italy, and Ligue 1 in France.

Every season, the best clubs from those leagues battle through a grueling tournament to decide the top club team on the continent. That journey now comes down to one match in Budapest on May 30th at 12 p.m. ET.

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are chasing back-to-back European titles, while Arsenal are playing in their first Champions League Final in 20 years as they hunt the first European Cup in club history.

How They Got Here: The Road to Budapest

PSG is back in the final as defending champions after beating Inter Milan in the 2025 final in Munich. PSG reached the final after edging Bayern Munich 6-5 over two semifinal matches. They won the first chaotic game 5-4 in Paris before securing a 1-1 draw in Munich. The 6-5 total score advanced them to the final.

PSG is known to play an aggressive, swashbuckling, attacking style, but Bovada Soccer Trader Alex Griggs was impressed by their poise in the second leg against Bayern Munich.

“PSG demonstrated a more disciplined and controlled style than people normally associate with Luis Enrique’s attack-focused teams,” he said. “This bodes well against Arsenal.”

On the Arsenal side, they reached their first Champions League Final in 20 years by beating Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in the two semifinal matches. After a 1-1 draw in Madrid, Bukayo Saka’s goal in the 45th minute sealed a 1-0 win. Defensive-minded Arsenal is a good foil for Paris; they have nine shutouts in 14 Champions League games.

“Arsenal’s identity is built around defensive structure, midfield discipline, and dangerous set pieces,” Griggs said. “Much of their edge this season has come from controlling matches and capitalizing on corners and free kicks.”

PSG: Can They Make History?

PSG is trying to become only the second club in the modern Champions League era to successfully defend the trophy, following Real Madrid’s run of three straight titles from 2016 to 2018. That possibility alone shows how much the club’s reputation has changed over the last decade. PSG is no longer viewed as a flashy contender that falls short in Europe. It is now one of the premier powers in soccer.

Domestically, PSG has dominated Ligue 1 in the modern era as one of the deepest and most expensive squads in Europe. That domestic dominance is beginning to translate into sustained Champions League success under manager Luis Enrique.

The talent level across the roster is elite. Ousmane Dembele brings explosive speed and creativity on the wing; Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is one of the most dangerous one-on-one attackers in Europe; Desire Doue adds versatility and flair; and Joao Neves controls the tempo in midfield. Veteran captain Marquinhos remains the defensive anchor and emotional leader of the squad.

That combination of European experience, attacking firepower, and overall depth is why PSG enters as the final favorite.

Arsenal: 20 Years in the Making

Arsenal’s last appearance came in 2006, when they lost 2-1 to FC Barcelona in Paris. Twenty years later, the club returns to Europe’s biggest stage with a chance to win the European Cup for the first time in franchise history.

Arsenal competes in the Premier League, widely viewed as the deepest and most competitive domestic soccer league in the world. Under manager Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have transformed into one of Europe’s most organized and balanced squads, consistently competing near the top of the Premier League while making a breakthrough in UEFA competition this season.

Saka gives Arsenal’s attack pace and finishing ability from the wing; captain Odegaard controls possession and tempo in midfield, while Declan Rice provides physicality and defensive stability.

“Arsenal’s identity is built around defensive structure, midfield discipline, and dangerous set pieces,” Griggs said. “Much of their edge this season has come from controlling matches and capitalizing on corners and free kicks.”

Not only do they have nine shutouts in 14 Champions League matches, but five straight matches have gone under the 2.5-goal total.

Champions League Final Betting: Tips from the Traders

PSG is understandably favored to lift the trophy and has impressed on its way to the final. But Griggs believes defense still wins championships, and that Arsenal has the juice to pull off the upset.

“Overall, this game looks likely to be a low-scoring final with one goal being the difference between the two sides,” he said. “While PSG have been more impressive recently, I think Arsenal are being underestimated by the odds offered.”

“My recommendation: Arsenal to win and Under 1.5 goals.”

Match winner odds and total goals are just the starting point. Bovada also offers both teams to score, total goals over/under, first goalscorer, anytime scorer, Asian handicap, correct score, extra time, and penalties odds.

“My option for first goalscorer is on the Arsenal side,” Griggs said. “Gabriel Magalhaes is always dangerous with his head, and PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov has been shaky.”
