It has been a busy couple of weeks for EPL teams during the 2023 summer transfer window with some big names completing moves early and with pre-season well underway, football managers, agents, and executives from top clubs are frantically working to secure their targets and fine-tune their squad with the return of English domestic football less than one month away.

Manchester United
As a Manchester United fan this transfer window continues to be a nervous one, it is no secret there is deep unrest between the fans and club owners, the Glazer family, however they have delivered a big name signing in midfielder, Mason Mount, who completed his £60m move from Chelsea earlier this month. Mount made his pre-season friendly against Leeds and looked encouragingly sharp.
In other Manchester United news, the Red Devils have reached an agreement in principle with Marcus Rashford over a new five-year contract.
A deal until 2028 is in the final stages of negotiation and set to be signed by the England international, who rejected more lucrative offers from England and abroad (rumoured to be Paris St Germain) to stay at Manchester United.
Rashford was rejuvenated under manager Erik ten Hag last season after a difficult 18 months and went on to be United’s top scorer with 30 goals in all competitions.
Manchester City
It has been quiet over on the blue side of Manchester. The summer after a Treble win was always going to be interesting. How do you improve? How can you tempt players to stay after winning it all?
Pep Guardiola’s rule has been not to step in the way if a player wishes to leave. Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling were all allowed to bow out and there was to be no begging from City’s part.
Ilkay Gundogan, who was one of City’s star players for years, became only the second captain of an English club to win the Treble. However, he made the decision to part ways with the club who gifted him legend status with a giant move over to Barcelona. With a pat on the back and a bouquet of flowers they sent him on his way.
Defender, Joao Cancelo – who was booed upon his Etihad return with Bayern Munich in the Champions League – might not get the same treatment. He is bound to be another player that leaves the Etihad this season after an apparent rift with Guardiola.
Meanwhile, another City full-back could be heading out of the door. Bayern are heavily interested in Kyle Walker and the 33-year-old is likely to be tempted by a swan song opportunity to play soccer overseas.
Arsenal
One of the biggest transfer stories of this window so far is English box-to-box midfielder, Declan Rice moving from West Ham to rival London club Arsenal. In a deal estimated to be worth £105m, Rice could well be the player to transform the current Arsenal midfield in order to go extra mile and keep the pressure on Manchester City’s quest for another Premier League title next season.

Liverpool
Liverpool FC started off brightly in the transfer market after signing World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister and Hungarian midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai. But a spanner has been thrown into the works by the news that Fabinho appears to be heading out of Anfield.
Should the Brazilian star become the latest big-name player to join the Saudi Pro League, it would leave Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needing a ready-made replacement. There are links to Aurelien Tchouameni, however, the Real Madrid man who Klopp tried to sign last summer, has seemingly made his feelings clear on that front by rejecting their advances.
Chelsea
Chelsea are willing to sell striker Romelu Lukaku, but have rejected two bids from Inter Milan so far because their £40m valuation has not been met yet. Reports say that Inter were willing to up their offer to £30m plus add-ons after Juventus joined the bidding war with an offer of £32m plus £2m earlier in the week.
But Lukaku’s future now hangs in the balance as Inter have threatened to pull out of negotiations because they are angry at Juve being allowed to come to the table. The breakdown in talks has led Chelsea to change their approach and ask Lukaku to return to Cobham for training.
Tottenham
The Harry Kane ‘stay or leave’ Tottenham Hotspur saga rumbles on; Bayern Munich remain confident they can sign Harry Kane from Tottenham in the summer transfer window (I will believe it when I see it).
Tottenham could reportedly enter the running for Manchester United transfer target, PSG striker, Randal Kolo Muani if Harry Kane joins Bayern this summer. The Bundesliga champions have seen two bids rejected to date but they are refusing to back down in their attempts to lure the England captain to Germany following face-to-face talks with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy in London earlier this week.
If Harry Kane does leave the Premier League, who is going to rival Erling Haaland for top goal scorer? With no Ivan Toney until next year, there is a gaping hole and interesting focus on who will be up there with the Norwegian goal scoring machine.
With still plenty of time before the 2023 summer transfer window closes there will undoubtably be more big moves to come. There needs to be if the top teams are going to be in with any chance of stopping Champions Manchester City.
