NFL Week 5 Predictions, Picks, and Game Previews

Week 4 brought more ‘dogs into the fight. Seven underdogs won straight up: Cleveland, New England, Carolina, the Giants, the Jaguars, the Cowboys, and the Falcons.

Kansas City, Minnesota, and San Francisco are the only undefeated teams left, and major injuries could shift Week 5 odds. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is nursing a high ankle sprain, running back Saquon Barkley is week-to-week with an injured hamstring, and Ja’Marr Chase is in concussion protocol.

NFL Week 5 odds start with Tampa Bay at Dallas, include another game in London, and wrap up on Monday night with a monster game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams.

NFL Week 5 Games to Watch

Thursday, Oct. 8: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys – 8:15 p.m. ET, Prime Video

  • Spread: Cowboys -7.5
  • Moneyline: Buccaneers +335; Cowboys -450
  • Total: 47.5

With QB Baker Mayfield out, things went from bad to worse for the 0-4 Buccaneers. QB Jalon Daniels made his first start of the season versus Green Bay, and although he completed 70% of his passes, he had two INTs and took three sacks.

He may have an easier time versus the Cowboys. Dallas gives up 28 points per game and has been in shootouts every week. Last week, they erased a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Houston 34-30, with CeeDee Lamb catching 17 passes for 189 yards.

Sunday, Oct. 11: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network

  • Spread: Jaguars -7
  • Moneyline: Eagles +250; Jaguars -300
  • Total: 43

Jacksonville is 3-1 after holding Cincinnati to 17 points, using first-round pick Travis Hunter and a strong secondary to pick off Joe Burrow twice. That doesn’t bode well for the Eagles, whose passing attack looked putrid against the Rams without wideout DeVonta Smith. They won’t have their elite run game either, with Saquon Barkley out, so it’ll be all on Jalen Hurts to get this offense moving.

Sunday, Oct. 11: Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers – 1 p.m. ET, FOX

  • Spread: Bears -3
  • Moneyline: Bears -150; Packers +130
  • Total: 45

Chicago has won three straight with three different quarterbacks. Tyson Bagent keeps the job after passing for 268 yards against the Jets, while Kyle Monangai rushed for 146 yards and two scores. Green Bay ended a two-game skid, but Chicago being favored at Lambeau Field without Caleb Williams shows the oddsmakers’ fading confidence in the Packers.

Sunday, Oct. 11: Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers – 1 p.m. ET, CBS

  • Spread: Steelers -2.5
  • Moneyline: Colts +120; Steelers -140
  • Total: 44.5

It’s hard to know which way either team will go. Indianapolis returns from London after Daniel Jones threw for only 143 yards against Washington. Pittsburgh lost on a last-second field goal in Cleveland despite Aaron Rodgers’ fourth-quarter comeback. The small spread shows that oddsmakers aren’t sure which Rodgers they’re going to get, even at home.

Sunday, Oct. 11: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks – 4:25 p.m. ET, FOX

  • Spread: Seahawks -3
  • Moneyline: 49ers +130; Seahawks -150
  • Total: 47

The NFC West battle between San Fran and Seattle is always heated and unpredictable. Last year, the first matchup had a line of -2.5 and a total of 48.5, but Seattle won 13-3. Then in the playoffs, with the total at 44, Seattle decimated San Fran 41-6. This year, the 49ers are the hotter team; oddsmakers have given Seattle just a 3-point home advantage.

Sunday, Oct. 11: Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons – 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC

  • Spread: Ravens -2.5
  • Moneyline: Ravens -140; Falcons +120
  • Total: 48.5

The value in betting this matchup hinges on QB Lamar Jackson’s ankle. He’s day-to-day and therefore could still start.

The Falcons are coming off a shockingly dominant win 45-24 over the Saints on Monday Night Football. They’ve averaged 40 points since QB Michael Penix Jr. returned from injury and could put up big numbers again against a Ravens squad giving up 24 points per game.

Monday, Oct. 12: Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams – 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC

  • Spread: Rams -3
  • Moneyline: Bills +140; Rams -165
  • Total: 54

These two teams could head in opposite directions by the end of MNF. Buffalo surrendered a late touchdown and a Josh Allen interception in its first loss this season. The Rams rallied in Philadelphia behind 317 passing yards from Matthew Stafford and two late Kyren Williams touchdowns to beat the Eagles. If the Rams win and cover, they’ll be 100% back in title contention. The Bills lose, and the AFC East is open for New England to swoop in.

Key Players to Watch in NFL Week 5

These players could perform above or below expectations because of matchup, role, or recent form.

  • CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys – Better Than Expected: Lamb is coming off a career-high 17 receptions and now faces a winless Tampa Bay defense without Antoine Winfield Jr.
  • Kyle Monangai, RB, Chicago Bears – Better Than Expected: Chicago gave Monangai 30 carries last week. Another heavy workload would protect Bagent in his first road start since 2023.
  • Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles – Lower Than Expected: Hurts managed just 93 passing yards against the Rams, and Barkley’s injury could let Jacksonville concentrate even more attention on him.
