2024 Week 5 College Football
#2 Georgia (-130) at #4 Alabama (+110)

One of the biggest games of the entire college football regular season is happening this weekend.

Get ready for Georgia at Alabama and all the bets that come with a game that is a possible National Championship Game preview.

With a spread of just 2.5 points in favor of Georgia and a moneyline that is nearing even odds, college football fans are in for a peach of a game.

Alabama’s three wins this season have come in large part because of their Heisman candidate QB Jalen Milroe. He’s thrown for close to 600 yards and has 8 touchdown passes this season, with no interceptions. Plus, he can run – Milroe has 156 yards and six TDs on the ground already.

The Bulldogs’ defense presents a significant challenge for Milroe. In their first three games this season, they’ve given up fewer than 20 points in total. Their impressive season started with a dominant victory over highly ranked Clemson, and with two national championships in the last three years, they definitely know how to perform in crucial matchups.

One of these two powerhouse programs is going home defeated, with a dent in their pride and their CFP hopes.

#3 Ohio State (-3300) at Michigan State (+1100)

The Ohio State Buckeyes did not give out their usual Defensive Player of the Game last weekend because they gave up 14 points against Marshall. Such is the standard of excellence at the Buckeyes, who won 49-14 anyway.

With that in mind, the 23.5-point spread against Michigan State might be low for Ohio State, with extra motivation to shut down the Spartans’ offense entirely.

But Michigan State is 3-1 and almost went 4-0 before a last-second touchdown by Boston College took them down last weekend. So there’s motivation on both sides of the field.

The difference could be the high turnover rate from Spartan QB Aidan Chiles. He’s thrown for 8 picks already this season. Against a fired-up Buckeyes defense, especially with players hungry for that Player of the Game award, the college football odds for this one are all pointing toward Ohio State.

All the bets for Ohio State at Michigan State are at Bovada this weekend.

#15 Louisville (+195) at #16 Notre Dame (-235)

Normally the higher ranked team gets the better college football odds in Week 5 of the NCAA football season. However, with the Fighting Irish getting home-field advantage, they’ve got the edge heading into the weekend’s game against Louisville.

Notre Dame still has a lot to prove to the College Football Playoff selection committee after their surprising loss to NIU in Week 2. They have bounced back with a vengeance in their last two games though, winning by a combined score of 94-10.

Louisville, with a 3-0 record and a high-powered offense, will see its first-ranked opponent this season in the Irish. That test will be made tougher with the loss of WR Jadon Thompson, the questionable status of another WR, Caullin Lacy, and possibly being without their top cornerback, Quincy Riley.

All these injuries plus the raucous home crowd in South Bend could prove to be too much for the Cardinals.

Close to 40 bets, including props and alternate lines, are at Bovada for the Louisville versus Notre Dame game.

Minnesota (+290) at #12 Michigan (-380)

The Michigan Wolverines kept their CFP hopes alive, but just barely, with a last-second TD over #11 USC last weekend. After a tough loss to #1 Texas in Week 2, the Wolverines likely can’t sustain a second loss this season if they hope to be playing in January.

That win over the Trojans boosted Michigan’s rankings by six in the AP Top 25. Is that a bit misleading for their college football odds against Minnesota, considering they were just seconds away from being 2-2?

Then again, the Golden Gophers are also tough to read. They gave up over 200 yards rushing in a loss to Iowa last week and they’re 2-2 on the season. Both their wins, however, were by a combined 75-0.

The key stat comparison to watch for? Minnesota’s suspect run defense against a Michigan ground attack that put up 290+ yards last weekend.

All the Michigan – Minnesota bets are available here. Keep an eye out for the home team (and their 110,000-strong home crowd) that can’t afford one more loss this season.

#19 Illinois (+625) at #9 Penn State (-1000)

Only 10 spots separate them in the rankings, but the difference in odds between Illinois and Penn State is significant. And somewhat surprising too, given the fact that the Fighting Illini have beaten two ranked opponents this season en route to a 4-0 record.

Penn State is an 18-point favorite currently, but keep in mind that Illinois beat the 9.5-point spread just a week ago in their OT win over Nebraska, in Lincoln no less. That win moved Illinois five spots higher in the AP rankings.

On the home team’s side, they’re coming off one of the larger demolitions in college football, a 56-0 win over Kent State in which they outgained the Golden Flashes 718 yards to 67.

The Nittany Lions have yet to face much of a challenge though in their first three games. Could they be in cruise control against a ranked and ready Illinois squad?

It may come down to a ground-and-pound strategy for Penn State. They’ve got the 10th-best rushing offense in the country, versus Illinois’ tough defense which is 15th in points allowed. All signs point to a good chance at a closer game then the current college football odds are indicating.
