Florida Panthers (+115)
Teams from the Sunshine State have booked a ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals every year for the past six seasons, including this year.
It is something in the water, or make that, sun? Either way, the Panthers are ready to pounce on the Oilers as they try to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.
It won’t be smooth skating. Oddsmakers for NHL Finals are calling for a close matchup, making the Panthers just a slight underdog at +115 for Game 1.
The Panthers went 47-31-4 during the regular season, good for fifth overall in the Eastern Conference.
While Florida doesn’t have the offensive superstars that Edmonton does, it’s between the pipes that the Panthers could steal the series. Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is making his 60th straight playoff start and is the team’s leading candidate to take home the Finals MVP award – more on that below.
Bobrovsky has 3 shutouts this postseason so far, and he has let in barely over 2 goals per game.
Florida’s depth is a big advantage as they are able to roll four strong lines, making them tough to grind down over a seven game series.
If it’s not Bobrovsky stealing the show, look to forwards Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, and Sam Bennett for your Player Props when it comes to betting on the Stanley Cup Finals.
Reinhart led the team in scoring during the regular season with 81 points, and Bennett and Tkachuk can score anytime.
The X-factor for the Panthers could be Brad Marchand, a player they added to the squad just a few months ago. His energy and two-way play are perfectly designed for the playoff grind. Marchand can shut down opposing players, and he has 14 points in 17 games so far during the 2025 NHL playoffs.
One big feather in Florida’s cap is what they might do to the Oilers’ home ice advantage.
It’s true Edmonton has been solid at home this postseason, going 6-1 and outscoring their opponents 33-16. While betting fans might love those numbers, keep in mind that the Panthers are the league’s best road team.
They’re 8-2 away from the Florida sun during the 2025 NHL Playoffs, with a big edge in scoring on the road, 48-21.
Edmonton Oilers (-135)
With Connor McDavid still looking for his first Stanley Cup and looking more determined than ever, there’s optimism in Edmonton. The team has not won the Stanley Cup since 1990, so the drought in Oil country is real.
The Oilers superstar has somehow elevated his game even more this postseason, with clutch plays that no one else in the NHL can make. He had 100 points during the regular season and already has 26 so far in the playoffs.
McDavid’s linemate, Leon Draisaitl, is right behind him on the playoff scoring front, with 25 points in 16 games so far.
With both these scoring machines on the ice, the Stanley Cup odds for Edmonton are always close. They can turn a game around in seconds.
McJesus, as he’s known to hockey fans, is also the leader when it comes to the Conn Smythe Trophy odds, the Stanley Cup Finals MVP award. His -105 odds are significantly higher than the #2 man on the list, Florida’s netminder Bobrovsky (+270).
Edmonton finished their regular season with 101 points, placing just 6th in the Western Conference but three points better than the Panthers.
But in the postseason, they’ve looked like the best in the West. The Oilers have lost only 4 games during the 2025 NHL Playoffs, allowing just 1 win in each of their last two rounds.
That’s mainly due to the brilliance of McDavid and Draisaitl, of course, but don’t overlook the Oilers’ goaltending. Stuart Skinner was 4-0 from Game 2 onwards in the Western Conference final, giving up only 5 goals in those games while facing 105 shots.
What makes this Stanley Cup preview interesting and a bit tough to call is that Skinner can get rattled – he gave up 5 goals in just one game before his hot streak, losing Game 1 to the Dallas Stars. If major agitators like Tkachuk, Bennett, and Marchand can get to him, Edmonton could be in trouble.
Game Specials and Series Specials
With such close games expected, fans can get in on all kinds of other bets to increase the action off the ice. The Game Specials at Bovada are combination bets and prop bets, with dozens of ways to play.
A fun one for fans – with a sweet payout too – is the Gordie Howe Hat Trick bet, at +4000. This goes to a player who scores a goal, gets an assist, and gets into a fight all in the same game. And for the 2025 Stanley Cup, this bet has Matthew Tkachuk’s name all over it.
Another solid play in what should be a high-flying series is the Game 1 special bet of McDavid, Draisaitl, Reinhart, and Bennett to combine for 16 or more shots on goal during the game. At +550, and with each player expected to come out firing, this could be a very special Special…
The Series Specials let you play all kinds of wagers on the Oilers-Panthers series too, on top of the game to game betting. You can make picks on overall games played, series and player Over/Unders and more.
