Florida State (-480) vs Georgia Tech (+350)
The Florida State Seminoles are the 10th-ranked NCAA football team in most pre-season polls, and together with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets they’re kicking off the college season in style all the way from Dublin, Ireland.
FSU lost their top QB to the pros after last season, but they picked up Oregon State’s DJ Uiagalelei to fill his shoes. The real story for the ‘Noles is the defense, though. They allowed just over 19 points per game last season and have a great returning class to go along with some solid new additions.
With a defense that stingy, and new QB who might need time to settle in with the new offense, the O/U of 57 might hold some value for Under bettors.
Clemson (+450) vs Georgia (-650)
The Georgia Bulldogs top the list for most oddsmakers’ NCAA Football rankings heading into the season. As the #1 team, this gives them pretty heavy favorite odds heading into their Week 1 game against the Clemson Tigers.
But as the 14th-ranked team in the nation, Clemson is no pushover. QB Cade Klubnik was a dark horse pick for the Heisman Trophy heading into last season, and he’s had a year to develop his game even more.
The Bulldogs, however, might just be too much. With two national championships in the past 3 years, the ‘Dogs still have a lot of bark. They were 13-1 last season, and QB Carson Beck is looking like a Heisman candidate himself.
All the Georgia vs Clemson lines, including great prop bets, are ready for this battle of highly-ranked teams.
Colorado State (+450) vs Texas (-650)
Early in the season, big point spreads can be a tempting target for bettors.
With the Texas Longhorns (#4 in pre-season rankings) at -35 heading into their opener against the Colorado State Rams, take a closer look at the teams and see if a difference of five TD’s is too big, or if it makes sense.
The Rams have among the highest number of key players returning in the Mountain West conference, including a third-year QB who hasn’t reached his ceiling and a top receiver in Tony Horton, who had 96 receptions last year and is a legit pro prospect.
The Longhorns are formidable, with stars like Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning both ready to shine at QB, but are they five-touchdowns-more-formidable, especially this early in the season? They might also be looking ahead to a brutal SEC schedule, overlooking the Rams in the meantime.
Miami Florida (-130) vs Florida (+110)
It’s one of the biggest rivalries in college football. The Florida Gators versus the Miami Hurricanes conjures up memories of pre-game brawls, The U, the Swamp, and plenty of other iconic moments.
Miami has the decided edge in talent and they’re ranked 19th in most pre-season polls. Quarterback Cam Ward was the most talented player in the transfer portal, and his fellow transfer Damien Martinez rushed for 9 TDs and averaged over six yards per carry last season.
Martinez makes this an especially tough matchup for the Gators, whose run defense lacks teeth, to say the least. They allowed close to 5 yards per carry last season. Factor in the transfer loss of their best pass rusher, Princely Umanmielen, and this 2-point spread could be considered low.
Notre Dame (-105) vs Texas A&M (-115)
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are always a big draw heading into college football season, and with the #7 ranking heading into Week 1, they’re getting plenty of attention once again.
Notre Dame’s biggest strength is defense, with Benjamin Morrison as a shut-down corner who had nine picks over the past two seasons. He’s part of a pass defense that was third in the country in passing yards allowed. The run defense is solid too; in six games last season they allowed fewer than 3 yards per run.
The Aggies are at #20 at the moment. They finished 6-1 at home despite fielding a fairly mediocre team. This year, they brought in Big Ten sack leader Nic Scourton and have a new head coach.
College Station (home of the notorious 12th man) is a tough place to play, which might be why, despite their higher ranking heading into the game, the Fighting Irish are 1-point underdogs currently.
For games like this that are too close to call, prop bets are a great way to play along. Margin props, for example, offer different odds for a range of scores for either team to win by.
LSU (-210) vs USC (+175)
With yet another stellar matchup between two ranked teams for Week 1, college football fans are in for a treat as Louisiana State faces the University of Southern California.
LSU, ranked 12th at the moment, has been a wide receiver factory in recent years, but they’re a little lighter in that area this season. Plus, they lost superstar QB Jayden Daniels to the NFL, along with WR Malik Nabers. Their top player is offensive lineman Will Campbell, who is great but can’t put points on the board. That’s up to new QB Garrett Nussmeier, who has shown good potential.
After losing Caleb Williams to the pros, USC is 23rd in pre-season rankings. Head coach Lincoln Riley produces top offenses every year it seems, but he’ll have to really work some magic this year. Miller Moss and Jayden Maiava are in line to replace Williams, but neither will produce like the Heisman finalist did.
Oddsmakers are liking both teams’ chances to light up the scorecard nonetheless, with the Over/Under at 63 points.
