CONNECTICUT +600
We’re still a month away from Selection Sunday, but the oddsmakers have been busy. Connecticut is currently the leading choice to hoist the National Championship Trophy when the madness comes to an end in April. Every week a new team seems to claim the top spot though, so keep an eye out and grab the odds you like early! UConn has the pedigree and the stars to make it, no question. Star guards Stephon Castle and Tristen Newton lead a backcourt that keeps the Huskies in every game.
PURDUE +650
Big man Zach Edey – all 7’4” of him – is third in the nation in points per game, and he leads a Purdue Boilermakers team that is primed for a deep run in 2024 March Madness action. Following last year’s humiliating loss to #16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson, this year’s version of Purdue men’s basketball is laser-focused, with only two losses all season heading into mid-February. Edey, the reigning National Player of the Year, could carry them into the Final Four pretty much on his own though – don’t expect Purdue to be caught off-guard again.
HOUSTON +950
The Houston Cougars are all about defense. They’re tops in the entire country in points allowed per game, ahead of the second-place team by over 3 points a game. Bovada’s 2024 March Madness odds put them in third place currently on the back of this tough D, because the Cougs are 211th in the league – not a typo – in points per game scored. Still, in the pressure cooker of the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight, or even the Final Four, a strong defense could be a big asset.
ARIZONA +1200
Currently #2 in the nation in points per game, the Arizona Wildcats are pretty much the opposite of Houston as we head into March Madness soon. These Wildcats are kittens on defense, allowing 73+ points per game and ranking well below 100th in the country in that category. But they’re #1 in the competitive Pac-12 conference, showing they can rise to the occasion in tight games. Plus, there’s Caleb Love, the star guard, who’s one of the oldest players in the tournament 22. He could bring some veteran savvy to the court when emotions are running high.
How about some of the big names that we’re so used to seeing in the later rounds during the 2024 Men’s Basketball Tournament? Shouldn’t we have already seen teams like Kansas and Duke? But oddsmakers don’t give points for best behavior – they want to give you the straight goods for your 2024 March Madness odds, without looking back. Still – these big programs offer solid value with these long odds.
KANSAS +1800
Hunter Dickinson has been averaging a double-double since transferring from Michigan before the start of the 2023-24 season, joining the Kansas Jayhawks and their perennial possibility of reaching the Final Four. Kansas’ March Madness odds in 2024 are a little lower than normal because they’re getting banged up in a tough Big 12 conference that features heavyweights like Iowa State, Houston, and Baylor. With that level of competition priming them into shape for the Road to the Final Four and possibly the National Championship Game, the 6th-ranked Jayhawks could be an attractive play at these long-ish odds.
DUKE +3000
Center Kyle Filipowski is the Duke Blue Devils’ go-to star, following in the March Madness footsteps of dozens of Duke legends over the years. Do they deserve their long odds? They’re consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the country this season, and although Coach K is gone, they have winning baked into their program’s DNA. It’s weird when we don’t see the Blue Devils in the final week before the National Championship game. Before the start of the season, they signed one of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the country, with young stars like Jared McCain gaining steam with every start. Duke is always primed to make a run during March Madness.
If you’re more interested in spreading your wagers around when it comes to March Madness, at Bovada you can also wager on teams just to make it to the Final Four, without needing to pick the eventual 2024 National Championship game winner. Here’s where you can play it more conservatively or hedge your bets. Connecticut and Purdue (both +150), Houston (+200), and Tennessee (+275) are the safest odds to make it to the final weekend. It’s also a great wager if you want to take a shot at your favorite NCAA men’s basketball squad or some longshots. As we all know, March Madness is all about the upsets.
Florida Atlantic (+1500 to make the Final Four) is a top-25 team with a star player in Johnell Davis. He poured in 35 against Arizona this season already and can light it up anytime. Gonzaga (+1800 to make the Final Four) is another program with a solid March Madness history. They’ve made the Elite Eight four times in the past nine years, with two Final Four appearances. They’re 2nd in the WCC – barely losing to #1 Saint Mary’s and taking down Kentucky on the road. The Bulldogs are currently 8th in the country in points per game too.
