The moment that felt so far away is already here. The NFL is back with all the drama, overreactions, and, of course, NFL odds to fill our lazy Sundays until early February. And this year, they’ve even thrown gasoline on the BBQ by loading up more Week 1 division battles than ever.

Thursday Night Football
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
- Start: September 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC
- Spread: Cowboys +7.0, Eagles -7.0
- Moneyline: Cowboys +250, Eagles -300
- Total: O46.5, U46.5
We understand that football fans have an issue with the 7-10 Cowboys earning opening night honors against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. But plenty is happening here to paint juicy narratives to start the season.
First, Cowboys superstar defensive end Micah Parsons is still holding out over a contract dispute that gets uglier by the minute. It’s doubtful he’ll be in the lineup to help a Dallas team that ranked 31st in points allowed. Second, Dallas QB Dak Prescott is making his return to the starting lineup after tearing his hamstring tendon in Week 9. All that while the Eagles will be showing off their Super Bowl LIX rings to the home crowd.
The Eagles were able to beat up on a weakened Cowboys squad last year, going 2-0 against the spread (ATS). However, bettors should keep in mind that divisional underdogs are 62-23-3 ATS (72.9%) in Week 1 since 2014.
Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers
- Start: September 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET on YouTube
- Spread: Chiefs -3.0, Chargers +3.0
- Moneyline: Chiefs -155, Chargers +130
- Total: O44.5, U44.5
When you line up QBs Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, and two offensive-minded coaches in Andy Reid and Jim Harbaugh, the expectation is offensive fireworks. But this is a division battle, and the Chiefs/Chargers rivalry is still as gritty as the 70s. In both division battles last season, teams combined for an average of 31.5 points, with both games going under the total in both contests. The Chiefs won both games but didn’t crack 20 points and went 1-1 ATS.
Harbaugh, for all his history as an offensive player, has built an elite Chargers defense that gave up only 18.5 points per game last year, ranking second in the NFL.
It’s worth noting that this game is being played on Friday night on neutral ground at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil.
New York Giants at Washington Commanders
Start: September 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX
Spread: Commanders -7.5, Giants +7.5
Moneyline: Commanders -340, Giants +270
Total: O45.5, U45.5Giants at Redskins
The division battles continue in the NFC East as QB Jayden Daniels starts his sophomore season against the rebuilt New York Giants.
The Giants were one of the worst teams last year, while the Commanders hit the QB jackpot, so, understandably, Washington went 2-0 ATS. But this year, New York added veteran QB Russell Wilson and drafted arguably the best and most pro-ready prospect in the 2025 draft – defensive end Abdul Carter. Carter has looked like a wrecking ball already in pre-season and could force Daniels to use his legs early.
Daniels and the Commanders should also be without their No. 1 wide receiver, Terry McLaurin. He’s in a contract holdout and has even requested a trade.
Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets
- Start: September 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS
- Spread: Steelers -3.0, Jets +3.0
- Moneyline: Steelers -155, Jets +130
- Total: O39.5, U39.5
These are the kinds of matchups that make us think the NFL loves reality TV. Less than a year after the Jets divorced him, Hall-of-Fame QB Aaron Rodgers returns to New York with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, the Jets added former Steelers QB Justin Fields.
This is not a simple game to handicap, as both squads have had major shakeups on the offensive side of the ball. Along with Rodgers, the Steelers have added star wideout DK Metcalf from Seattle for a second-round pick. They also shipped off inconsistent wideout George Pickens to Dallas.
With Fields on the Jets, the offense should be entirely different with the fifth-year QB’s 4.4, 40 legs. However, his uncertainty as a passer, and the first game for first-time head coach Aaron Glenn, is likely why NFL opening lines made New York three-point home dogs.
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
Start: September 7 at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX
Spread: Packers -1.5, Lions +1.5
Moneyline: Packers -118, Lions -102
Total: O49.5, U49.5
Are the Lions still Super Bowl-ready after losing both their coordinators? Are the Green Bay Packers ready to regain the top spot in the NFC North? We may get a ton of answers in Week 1.
The Lions have had their way with the Packers since 2022, winning six of seven matchups (including 2-0 last year) and going 5-2 ATS.
Sunday Night Football
Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills
Start: September 7 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC
Spread: Bills -1.5, Ravens +1.5
Moneyline: Bills -122, Ravens +104
Total: O51.5, U51.5
Monster games deserve a monster stage. The NFL has lined up a heated matchup between MVPs and a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional Round for Sunday Night Football. The Ravens have plenty of reasons to be fired up on Sunday night. QB Lamar Jackson lost the 2024-25 MVP to Josh Allen despite statistically having a better season. And then Buffalo knocked the Ravens out of the playoffs, edging them 27-25 as 1.5-point underdogs.
Monday Night Football
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
- Start: September 8 at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC
- Spread: Bears -1.5, Vikings +1.5
- Moneyline: Bears -122, Vikings +102
- Total: O45.5, U45.5
Another heated division battle, this time between two second-year QBs. Caleb Williams’ rookie year didn’t reach the Patrick-Mahomes-sized expectations his draft hype projected. To improve on his 20-touchdown, six-interception season, the Bears hired offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach, who led the Lions to the number one scoring offense last season.
The Vikings had similar changes. After losing QB Sam Darnold in free agency, Minnesota is ready to hand the keys to 2024 No. 10 overall pick J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy didn’t play a snap in 2024 after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during preseason. So, this will be like a rookie year for the former Michigan Wolverine. What the Vikings gained in raw talent, they may have lost in veteran savvy.
Last year, Minnesota won both matchups, with them covering the spread in one game and earning a push in another.
