GSP stepped away from the UFC as reigning welterweight champion four years ago, and will be looking to extend his current win streak in the octagon to 13 in Saturday night’s match at Madison Square Garden.
St-Pierre escaped with a split decision victory in his last octagon appearance, getting past challenger Johny Hendricks as -205 chalk at UFC 167 and improving his professional MMA record to 25-2. The win marked GSP’s seventh straight win by decision, and the ninth successful defense of his welterweight crown.
Bisping enters the second defense of his middleweight title pegged as a -105 underdog. The native of Manchester claimed the crown with a stunning first-round knockout win over Luke Rockhold as a heavy +425 underdog at UFC 199. “The Count” followed up with a Fight of the Night performance, outlasting veteran Dan Henderson to claim a unanimous decision win as -205 chalk at UFC 204.
The victory over Henderson extended Bisping’s winning streak to five and made him the first fighter in UFC history to claim 20 victories. However, the 38-year-old has also endured difficult stretches since joining the UFC in 2006. Bisping fell to defeat in four of his seven fights previous to his current win streak, but remains a solid 4-1 in his past five fights on American soil.
Jedrzejczyk Defending Strawweight Crown
Two other title fights are set to take place at UFC 217, with Joanna Jedrzejczyk defending her women’s strawweight crown against Rose Namajunas as a massive -500 favorite before bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt battles No. 2 challenger TJ Dillashaw as -185 chalk.
Jedrzejczyk improved her perfect pro MMA record to 14-0 with a unanimous decision win over Jessica Andrade as -250 chalk in her fifth successful title defense at UFC 211, and has now gone the distance in five straight contests.
Rose Namajunas is listed as a heavy +350 underdog for UFC 217, she owns a 6-3 record after claiming a submission victory over Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox 24 as a +105 underdog, and also won by submission in her lone fight to go five rounds, topping Paige VanZant as a +110 bet at UFC Fight Night 80.
